The journey to becoming a democratic rule of law country is never easy. Today, the Mahkamah Konstitusi (MK) will provide answers to some of the crucial questions related to this significant test.

In the dispute hearing over the Perselisihan Hasil Pemilihan Umum (PHPU) at the MK, three pairs of presidential candidates for the 2024 election battle against each other. Each camp has formed its own team, involving top lawyers to present their defense before the MK.

In a decision that has been made, the MK has rejected all the claims and disputes filed by Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar. This ruling declares that Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka remain the winners of the 2024 presidential election.

"Judging, stating, in the exceptions rejecting the exceptions of the defendants and related parties in their entirety. Rejecting the applicants' requests in their entirety," said Ketua MK Suhartoyo during the verdict hearing at the Gedung MK on Monday (April 22, 2024).

Additionally, decision No 90/PUU-XXI/2024 regarding the age limit for presidential and vice-presidential candidates also highlights a serious breach of ethics. Dewan Kehormatan Penyelenggara Pemilu (DKPP) has determined that the Komisi Pemilihan Umum (KPU) violated ethical rules by not amending the Peraturan KPU (PKPU) as a requirement for election participants.

In its consideration, the MK stated that the KPU, together with the Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat (DPR), held a hearing involving the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) and the Badan Pengawas Pemilu (Bawaslu) to discuss the changes to PKPU. In this meeting, all political party factions supporting the presidential and vice-presidential candidates agreed to the amendments.

One thing we can learn from this hearing is the importance of safeguarding a fair and transparent legal process in strengthening our democracy. Let us continue to hope that our country will progress further towards becoming a robust and democratic rule of law nation.
