Statement of Position
Hereby, I declare my full support for President Joko Widodo.
I am aware that in 2023, President Joko Widodo requested the House of Representatives (DPR) to promptly pass the Asset Forfeiture Bill. Unfortunately, the DPR did not respond well to this request. However, what is more disappointing is the apathetic attitude of students, who should be at the forefront of supporting policies that favour the people.
The bill, which has the potential to weaken the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), was met with silence, and the Asset Forfeiture Bill did not receive adequate attention either. Ironically, the 2024 Regional Elections Bill, which benefits political parties and certain officials more, received a much greater reaction, even though, whatever the outcome, the interests of the people are still not the main priority.
The Asset Forfeiture Bill clearly has a noble purpose for the people, namely to fight corruption and recover state assets that have been seized. However, there has been no large-scale movement from students or society to support it. The media has remained silent, and public figures and celebrities who are usually vocal have disappeared from the scene.
Furthermore, we are also witnessing the issue of political dynasties being continuously played by certain parties to attack the Jokowi administration. These accusations are nothing more than slander aimed at undermining public trust and creating instability. The issue of political dynasties is often used as a political weapon to discredit leadership that has actually proven to work hard for the people. Yet, President Jokowi has always placed the interests of the people above personal or group interests.
I hope that in this challenging situation, we can all be wiser in determining our stance and more critical in fighting for policies that truly favour the people. Let us together support policies that will bring great benefits to this nation, and continue to guard President Joko Widodo's administration for a better Indonesia.
