Advocacy for SPLP Issuance
LToday, I volunteered to assist in obtaining the SPLP (Travel Document in Lieu of a Passport) for a mother and child at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia. After accompanying them and consulting the embassy staff, I gained deeper insight into the procedures for obtaining an SPLP for mother and child.
4 Requirements for Issuing SPLP for Indonesian Children Without Documents
1. A copy of the mother’s passport or SPLP (and the father’s passport if available);
2. A birth certificate from the Malaysian National Registration Department (JPN), with or without legalization from Malaysia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, OR an Affidavit from a Commissioner of Oaths; one of these is required. (The nearest Commissioner of Oaths office can be found online);
3. A birth certificate from the hospital or clinic, AND/OR a letter from the local village chief (Malaysian citizen) with statements from two witnesses; and
4. A Statement of Absolute Responsibility (SPTJM) signed and fingerprinted by the mother (available at the embassy during the appointment).
